Jack Leese, a key member of our marketing team enjoys rallying during his spare time. Having passed his driving test just one month previously, Jack completed his debut rally at the Vale of York Stages Rally on Sunday the 3rd of September and he won! Jack drove his igroup rally car a Peugeot 208 r2.
To compete in Stage Rallying you need a full DVLA driving licence so Jack was very eager to kick start his motorsport career once he passed his driving test on the 3rd of August. Prior to the event Jack had completed a handful of test days with David Higgins a famous Subaru Rally Team USA Driver and 8 times Rally America Champion.
The event officially kicked off at 8:30am with drivers briefing before the first car went out at 9:15am. The rally was made up of 8 stages averaging around 8 miles each, totalling a gruelling 64 miles. After the first stage Jack trailed the leader by 20 seconds which was expected, with it being his first rally – his main objective was to bring the car (and himself) home in one piece.
Once he came to stage two there was a sudden increase of pace as he took 5 seconds back from the leader and then a further 10 on stage three, by stage four he was leading his class by 3 seconds.
The day went relatively smoothly apart from a near miss roll, which the crowd appreciated as Jack flew by on two wheels bearing igroup’s logos. By the end of stage 8 Jack had managed to pull 13 seconds over second place after a total of over an hours’ worth of racing, capping off a very successful debut.
