Microsoft recently announced a number of new Yammer features as well as its roll-out to all Office 365 Enterprise customers. The new features include:
In a blog post announcing the updates, Microsoft’s Jared Spataro made note of the improved email interoperability: “This simple licensing change significantly reduces the friction in cross-org collaboration and will enable end users to work with customers and partners without having to worry about additional costs.”
The update is certainly a useful development, allowing organisations to collaborate more easily with external partners and clients. It also reflects Microsoft’s long-term aim to deeply integrate Yammer with its products as a means of improving their social features. Indeed, the announcement as a whole demonstrates a commitment to improving functionality and its faith in Yammer as an investment.
Microsoft acquired Yammer in June 2012 for $1.2 billion (£800m) as an already mature social network. In the first 12 months, the service saw a 55% increase in registered users (up to about 8 million) and 200% increases in paid-for networks and user activity.
