Alder Hey is a specialist Children’s NHS Trust based in Liverpool and established in 1914. It is one of Europe’s biggest and busiest children’s hospital. They run a centre of excellence for numerous specialist services, are World Health Organisation accredited and employ over 2000 members of staff.
Alder Hey NHS Trust had an existing SharePoint installation but struggled with adoption and usage. The site structure of the trust had changed over time, and SharePoint had not been updated to reflect these changes, meaning that silos of information were out of date and inaccessible. It was critical to develop a solution that gave healthcare professionals information to help departments function correctly.
A series of workshops were organised for key members of staff at Alder Hey to discover what the current organisational structure looked like, how recent changes affected the current system, and what information was required to help them function.
A new architecture was created for document management through a new intranet, enabling staff to collaborate on work and better sharing of information.
