Pocket PC software
Microsoft
has a number of operating systems for PDA's and handheld
mobile computing devices. Pocket PC has seen a number of
editions developed (e.g. Pocket PC 2003) and is primarily
aimed at the consumer market. The operating system will
seem familiar to anybody that has used windows. Software
applications can run on the devices using the Microsoft
operating system. Pocket PC software is wide and varied
with new applications being developed at a rapid rate.
Individuals can use handheld devices in a work environment
and work wirelessly. Many users use PDA devices only for
telephone, email and the internet. Although enterprise
applications can be accessed from the device and data
wireless transferred into a back end database and
information looked up in the field quickly and easily. An
application can enable workers to be more productive in the
field and reduce paper processes and minimise mistakes.
Software can be developed that can be ported across many
different types of devices that have Pocket PC. The process
sing power and improved communications via GPRS and 3G are
opening up new applications and enabling a truly mobile,
wirelessly connected worker.
