software developers

Software developers can function as engineers, managers, coders, architects, consultants; or any combination of thereof.  They can work as contractors, freelancers or employees, and may be employed by private and public businesses, government agencies, the military, non-profit organizations, hospitals or universities.  The general educational requirements for software developers involve degrees in computer science, but with much of the coding going to outsourced companies overseas, it is becoming increasingly important for developers in western countries to have additional education in management, marketing and customer relations.  This gives them more flexibility in their careers, and places them in a competitive position for the development positions that are available.  Despite fears that software development jobs are decreasing, the reality is that our world is more and more software dependent every day.  Quality developers with education, experience, and current working knowledge of new technologies will be needed more and more in the coming decades.
