Toughbook is the trademark of a brand of rugged and semi-rugged laptops marketed by Panasonic. Toughbook models are used by law enforcement officials and emergency management services personnel in their daily tasks because of their durability and ability to operate within extreme conditions. While the Tougbhbook only properly applies to the Panasonic models of rugged laptops, a variety of other manufacturers make Toughbooks designed to operate in similar conditions. For the average consumer, a Toughbook is able to withstand short drops and not overly heavily handling. Unlike the average laptops, they are also spill resistant, although this does not mean it is safe to poor water on a semi-rugged notebook. Panasonic is not the only manufacturer of rugged laptops, but for trademark reasons they are the only manufacturers of the Toughbook line of products. Many of the Toughbook models even meet mil standards for rugged mobile computers.
