Handheld Devices

Handheld devices are great, but sometimes there are necessary pieces of mobile computing equipment that will help us get the job done. The stylus is one piece of mobile computing equipment, but it is not the only one that might come to mind. Other pieces of mobile computing equipment may include keyboards, cameras, and in the case of the smaller pdas, software that lets the user use the device as a cell phone. Getting the right mobile computing equipment for your business is an essential strategy. Being unprepared can be disastrous. The accessories are only one part of the equation, the mobile computing equipment devices themselves are essential to the function of any of the accessories. The right accessories can also keep the businessman looking professional and stylish. It also gives him an even greater number of cool gadgets to play with.

An Internet search reveals a number of directories that will give you information on mobile computers. Perhaps the most unique service of this type is chacha.com. Chacha made headlines a few years ago by introducing a search engine that used human to give results. A year later they introduced a mobile directory where humans give the answers to the questions asked. This mobile directory simplifies the process of sorting out the results and is likely to give users searching on their mobile phones the answers to the question that they were looking for exactly as well as reducing the costs associated with using such a mobile computer directory. Adding the human element into this mobile computer directory is one instance where adding the human factor into it saves the users of the service time and money, which is always good for the bottom line of any business.

Mobile Computing Devices

When most people think of mobile computing devices they think of handhelds and pdas. Laptops also fall into this category, and the addition of a few pieces of hardware, laptops make great mobile computing platforms. That is after all what they were designed for. All that is needed to turn a laptop into a mobile device is a broadband wireless card that can be accessed from anywhere. Most cellular services make them available, but they can be pricey, service is often in the range of 200 pounds per year. When a normal wireless networking card cannot be inserted to get a laptop onto the Internet, a broadband access card lets a user get right back into the game and complete whatever work or assignment he might have with his laptop, now a mobile computing device. Take it back out and it reverts to its normal roll as a portable pc.

Mobile Application Development

by steve 19. February 2008 16:20
Finding mobile application resources can be difficult. While Windows CE is still not the most popular operating system for handheld devices, it is gaining popularity. Fortunately, the Windows Mobile 6.0 development kit makes an excellent resource for those that want to integrate mobile applications that will work well with the Windows desktop environment. The kit includes all the information and tools the mobile application resources designer needs to know how to program applications for touch screen devices and non-touch screen devices alike. The cd also comes with access to online tutorials and many white papers which can help a programmer out. The Windows mobile resources kit also includes the software development kit and information on how to certify the application with Microsoft itself. You could compile all of these mobile application resources online.

Mobile Application Development

Mobile application development has become increasingly important with a cell phones and PDAs increasingly being used for business and personal use, but rising up to meet the challenge requires the right tools. Finding the best tools for mobile application development is not easy, but with a little help, the task can be made far simpler. One tool for writing consumer applications for mobile devices is Borland's Jbuilder. The IDE makes the task of developing applications far easier, although beginning programmers might want to shy away from the environment in Java, at least until they understand what is specific to the IDE. Sun Microsystems also offers an excellent set of Java development tools, called the Open Network environment. There are other programs that can work for mobile application development, but these are the best available. Microsoft also makes a Java package, but it works better with Windows and Windows CE mobile application development instead of being a cross platform system.

Mobile Email Blackberry or Windows Mobile?

by steve 13. February 2008 20:33

The Blackberry is one of the most popular handheld devices, but it has been plagued by a number of lawsuits, which may of raised the cost of the service. While the Blackberry itself may be addictive, a number of similar cell phone services have arisen to take full advantage of the monthly costs.

This does not make the Blackberry any less popular, but it brings into question the need for one instead of using the other similar handheld devices which let the user access the Internet. Some of them even come with QWERTY keyboards now in addition to the handy stylus. Whichever one the user chooses will depend on personal preference and the model chosen will likely be one that will suit his needs. If the lawsuits continue to increase the cost of the service, the Blackberrys imitators will gain the largest market share for this type of handheld device.

Handheld Computers

Handheld computers come in a variety of brands. Certainly, computers have come along way from their early days when a single computer with computing power far less than your average cell phone would take up a single room. While they have not seen common use today, it is hard to imagine professionals without them as they are rapidly replacing day planers as a good way to get and keep organised. It also saves paper. Fortunately, the software used on handheld computers is not difficult to learn. The only drawback to the handheld computer market is that they have yet to catch up to the stylistic looks offered by mobile phones. That's okay; at least the iphone with its skins is giving you a good way to look a little more fashionable and high tech at the same time.
