A PDA or smartphone can be used to manage your emails.
Some of the advantages of using web mail on a PDA are -
* you can search quickly for messages
* you can identify the sender
* you can bring up a certain topic
* even portions of text in an email can be read
* you can save attachments
A PDA can help you find just about any information distributed over email by just a few clicks.

So you made it – and there you are abroad.
The plane has landed or the ferry has docked. If you have GPS you are away. In some regions securing a satellite lock can be a hit and miss affair but this is one area where the PDA comes into its own, albeit a strain on battery life.
So much to see and record. Take advantage of the photo sharing libraries or blogs to keep in touch with your family. Splashblog is a free option for Palm and smartphone users to store up to 500 photos. I will certainly be using mine to record a family wedding in the South of France soon.
If you are going off the beaten track don’t forget your enemy is power consumption. Consider the following to help conserve power –
• Reduce the backlight
• If you don’t need it switch off 3G, wi-fi and Bluetooth
• Turn off international roaming

A PDA can be a travellers best friend. Admittedly with internet cafes, wi-fi hotspots and ordinary mobiles there are not many places where you’ll find yourself beyond the digital world. The PDA gives you all that connectivity in your pocket.
Before you travel you can check out, on your PDA, your destination, plan your route, be reminded of what needs doing and what you need to take.
If you are in a foreign land you will have a currency and measurement converter in your pocket. If you don’t speak the language, no need to worry, you can have a dictionary and a phrase book to hand. These days you can even have a talking translator with you – just speak any phrase into your handheld and have it perfectly translated into the local tongue. If your journey is a long one you can take your own entertainment with you. The advantages of mobile technology! I will certainly be travelling with my PDA and also my best friend.

Many of the things you love about using the internet on a computer are the same when you surf on a mobile. Of course there are a few obvious differences. You view web pages on a smaller screen and type on a mobile keypad instead of a keyboard. The bonus is you can use the internet in any location where you have mobile coverage. You can search, read, shop and interact. PDA’s or Personal Digital Assistants keep millions of people organized these days. With GPS tracking and Bluetooth we have the ability to organize our lives in our hands. The price of mobile PDA’s/handhelds has come down over the years, while the processing capabilities and the usability have increased dramatically. The price for these mobile devices is also a fraction of the cost of a laptop. Where a laptop seemed too costly and too bulky to do a particular job a mobile device can fill the gap and provide a business with an added dimension. See the article on mobile applications on our web site.

With mobile email, your home or office email goes where you go. With certain email services, you’ll receive “new mail” alerts with shortcut access to your inbox. From there you can read, delete, and respond to your email as if you were on your PC. Mobile email is available as a download for various phone models and is pre loaded on some of the most recent versions. Push email technology is relatively mature, and mobile operators are fully backing the deployment of mobile email solutions. The market is set to show rapid growth over the next five years, and provide significant opportunities for mobile operators and mobile infrastructure providers.
If you are in business mobile email enables you to respond to customers and process orders without delay, thereby improving customer relations and closing sales in shorter periods of time. With the appropriate infrastructure in place, we’ll provide you with all the documents you need to guide you through activating Windows Mobile® email on your server and configuring your mobile devices.
Your smartphones, PDAs and other devices can be automatically set up from your office.
We at igroup partner leading vendors and networks to bring you the best business solutions at the lowest rates possible.

As I prepare to travel abroad for my holiday one of the things I am looking forward to is getting away from the daily grind. I love to get away from as many worldly distractions as possible. However it is more than likely the office will extend its reach into my holiday. With the advances in mobile technology I doubt I’ll manage to be away completely from my desk. Receiving and managing my emails will not be a problem with my PDA. I just hope there might be a smaller percentage than usual. The only consolation is that there will be fewer to deal with on my return. The answer would be to leave my phone at home but it is wonderful to be able to keep in touch with my family while so far away. Modern technology has brought so many positive things into my life I would hate to be without it. Please boss, much as I love my job remember I’ll be far away, I’ll think of you all, but keep the office in the UK.

Security in a recent survey was identified by IT professionals as a major concern.
Ensuring data cannot escape and is secure is going to be of high importance for the forseeable future in the IT world. Many mobility industry experts agree the security of fast growing mobile deployments needs to be addressed. An integrated approach to security and management is becoming a top priority to forward looking companies. One of the key challenges to many companies over the coming years will be maintaining control of their mobile workforces. The companies who successfully manage their mobility will gain a competitive edge over those who fall behind.

Increasingly, being able to provide proof of delivery, proof of sale, proof of job completion … or even proof of attendance has become a requirement for smooth day to day running of most businesses.
igroup are aware that logistics is not purely about shifting boxes. In choosing a supplier, customers look for the ability to find out when their goods were delivered and who signed for them. Most customers have a policy stating that goods only get paid for once they have proof they have been delivered.
I was visiting a customer earlier in the week who told me that a missing Proof of Delivery can take hours to find and worse still, is expected instantly by the customer. For some companies this can mean loss of professional image, not to mention an extra headache when sorting invoicing and delayed payment.

Several of the igroup staff enjoyed their day karting in Buxton on Sunday.
One young karting enthusiast, Jack, drove his igroup sponsored kart extremely well.
The MD as usual giving instructions and leading the way.
The weather was kind to us and we all enjoyed a picnic in the lovely setting amongst the hills. Even if some of us did need ear plugs!
