Xplore iX104C3 Rugged 3G Tablet

We are undertaking a project that requires using rugged tablets, basically the data that is collected would take way too long to collect using a rugged PDA. The application itself shows images of buildings to the user, it is used in the social housing sector for a housing trust. The user then marks on the drawing where any work needs doing on that building.

Our client required us to find a rugged tablet that was suitable for the job. We have used the Xplore rugged tablet for this job because of its superior processor power and its long list of technical specifications - 3G/UMTS/GPRS, WIFI, Bluetooth, Touch Screen, IP65, Windows XP Tablet edition. What this tablet has enabled us to do is build a highly configurable C#.NET application. We have not had to resort to the compact framework, which has enabled us to do some very cool things, such as adding images from an attached camera and drawing rough sketches of buildings. The model we have used is the iX104C3 which is the latest version and one up from the iX104C2. It can even have GPS added as an option, but then this is a military grade tablet.

After extensive testing of the application on the tablet, the tablet has proved itself to be a leader in its field. The distinguishing feature has to be the addition of the 3G/UMTS. There are no awkward caps or antenna, the card is added inside the tablet which enables data to be sent at high speed (1.8Mbps) back to the management system.

I hope to give more information about the project once complete to give everyone an idea of what can be accomplished by mobile computing.
